Skylight and Butterflies.

Just a quick post about what I've seen today. I went to the mall, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, along with my mom and niece to stroll. We happened to drop by the Atrium on the 5th floor and I got the urge to take pictures of the skylight and the hanging paper butterflies. I thought the compulsion came really late as I've been seeing these things for many times whenever I pass by that area.

Atrium skylight.

Hanging paper butterflies.

Probably, there was something about this day. Maybe inspiration just struck me.

Mi Sueno's Stunning Promise.

The great thing about going to one of the best beaches in the world during the low season?

Aside from having a more wonderful-experience-because-of-the-less-number-of-tourists vacation, you get to relax peacefully because-there's-plenty-of-better-hotels-to-stay-at for a low price!

But I don't want to sound like an advertising junkie here. I just want to share my experience with this lovely apartment we (with my sister and her boyfriend) stayed in Boracay Island the other weekend. Perhaps, it was the best weekend of my life. I got to scratch "To go to Boracay!" off my lifetime wish list. But I do want to go back there someday. Anyhow, this is my first (so-called) design review.

Photo by MyBoracayGuide.com. Why did I forget to take a photo of the whole place from oustide?
This is the Mi Sueno Apartments. It's situated on a sort of remote hill of Brgy. Bulabog. It cost us P3000 per night to get two rooms, indeed a very good deal. I failed to get a picture of the entrance but it has this very elevated cemented stairs, with uneven difference in the height between each step that put our patience and stamina to the test. According to the site, the architecture was built to European specifications with Euro/Asian looks.

Design Idea: Young. Reversible. elbisreveR.

By the time I was done with my first chair, I thought I should begin my quest in creating more functional furniture. Inspired by the cramped (and expensive!) home spaces that are sprawling in the metro, I have here my version of a reversible chair.

What I had in mind was simple - a chair that I can flip with the arm rests, painted with two different colors, becoming the legs, and turn it over back to its early look. I believe this can be convenient for anyone who wants a chair with two looks but takes up the same amount of space.

The only sketch I made for the idea.

Design Idea: Gypsum.

As promised, I'll be sharing my furniture concept designs right here, every now and then. Mentioning again that I finally managed to bring myself back to blogging, I'm glad that these experiments, as I like to call them, found their home. So after my graduation from the CAD weekend class in early February, I began to design furniture and it went to become my passionate hobby. As of now, I have designed three chairs and one table, all virtually stored in my portfolio.

I named my first chair The Gypsum Chair for the reason that I used a gypsum wood as the material for the seat and seat back.  For the stile and legs, I used metallic and glossy black and red colors respectively. But before I present the final design, here is the Gypsum Chair design in my early sketch.

My Love Affair with Design.

In the late half of 2011, I threw myself into thinking of what I would really love to do with my life, particularly the job that I would really love to do and make me say 'I really love my job, I'm no longer gonna have to work a day in my life!' brouhaha. The process brought back a ghost from the past - the frustration of not taking a degree in Architecture. When I was a kid, my mom used to watch me draw our own house and she told me how good I was. She noted that I was very detailed on my illustration. But our finances went rough, so I had to take a college course that would save me from starving. Right now my day job in an IT firm stays true to one of its premises. I guess the ghost came back after I lied to my coworker that I got over it and pronounced that I have nothing to lose. Nah, this is a serious matter of the heart.

Another Fresh Start.

For many months now, I've been really itching to get back to blogging.  I had a blog that ran as Jasper On The Loose from 2010 to the middle of 2011.  Unfortunately, I got plagued with the depression of being unable to post anything.  However, I realized I was wrong to think that I had nothing to post when in fact so many things have happened on those down times. It was bad for me to even forget that the important part of blogging is to express myself.

And hallelujah! I finally pulled all the might (yes, you might have just read that on the About Me section of the blog but I'm speaking of this force in general) to bring back myself to expressing a lot of things - my interest, musings, what-not.  So Jas Saying, which I played with the common phrase by replacing 'just', is intended to be a collection of my thoughts, everyday life, and interests, particularly on interior and furniture concepts, illustrations and anything that takes on art.  This is one channel, that I really hope, will help me push myself further to make my dream come true.  Lately, I've been exposed to many things that inspire me.  As I begin to form this blog, I will be taking those inspirations on the posts that I will be making.  For now, this is just a start.
